In March, we published an essay introducing the need for a new World’s Fair — It’s Time To Build: a new World’s Fair. Reception was strong (we hit #1 on HackerNews and 25k page views… vanity metrics, but still awesome!)

Dozens of people reached out to support and hundreds signed up to get updates. We definitely hit a nerve — the need to celebrate the future and focus on the positive clearly resonates with people and needs some serious exploration.

Today, I’m excited to announce that we were recently awarded a grant from Tyler Cowen through Emergent Ventures to fund this exploration. In addition, we brought on about a dozen other patrons to participate in a small “friends & family” funding round for the Fair that we’ll use to begin laying the groundwork for development.

At this point, we’ve got a little bit of capital and lots of questions that need answers. In the coming months, we’ll (hopefully) find these answers and develop a plan that will bring this mega-event to life.

From time to time, we’ll post updates here as we have relevant things to share. In the meantime, please follow along on Twitter (@WorldsFairCo) or send me an email if you want to get involved.

Onwards!
